I've been back in rural Illinois for about a month, minus my two weeks in NY. Summer is in high gear here. County fairs are preparing to start, little league is at its peak, and the corn is as high as an elephant's eye...(ooops, that's about Oklahoma, not Illinois). Life is definitely relaxed here, which is a change that I'm getting used to. I'd forgotten how pretty it is to see lightning bugs pepper the sky with their glow, to see the sun setting over a field of corn, and how it feels to walk barefoot across newly mowed grass.
An added bonus of being back in Illinois is that I can get a cherry Ski anytime! Ski is a delicious citrus beverage produced by Double Cola and a staple of life in Clinton County. (http://www.double-cola.com/prod_cski.asp)
The other night I was going into the garage to check on my cats, Jerry and Ernie (Hooray, we've been reunited!). As I opened the door, I noticed a strange "fluffy" tailed black animal walking under my sister's car. I began to tell my dad about the stranger who had apparently been chowing down on the cat food when we saw a black and white striped head coming out from under the car! We immediately went into defensive mode and remained in the house. About six months ago, my parents had another skunk visitor but were not as fortunate. It went into defensive mode and detonated itself in the garage. Not wanting to relive the messy ordeal, we nabbed the cat food from the garage and waited for the skunk to retreat.
Ah, the simple (and sometimes stinky) life. :)
