White and Nerdy

I am a nerd. I love to learn. I love libraries and museums. I’m by no means an art aficionado, but I am learning to appreciate it. However, my last visit to an art museum ended up being rather disappointing. I was thrilled to see the arms and armor exhibit at the Met, yet couldn’t because too many people didn’t show up for work that day and there weren’t enough security guards around. Then, little did I know the Van Gogh’s and Monet’s weren’t on display because of a refurbishment to that section. I saw that the Art Institute of Chicago had an arms and armor exhibit and was hoping that the Met experience would be redeemed. My plan was foiled AGAIN by construction. Despite the lack of access to the arms and armor exhibit, my art and culture fix was attended to, and I enjoyed my stroll through the museum and left with a hunger to know a bit more about art. I found myself making connections from the paintings and periods to the periods of literature and wished I could take my students on a stroll through the halls. Well, maybe we’ll just have to take a virtual fieldtrip.
