Q1: What do you plan to do this fall?
A: Honestly, I’m not sure. I know two things: I'm registered for the Chicago Half Marathon and I won't be teaching full-time.
Q2: Will you go back to East Asia?
A: My first and almost immediate response is, “I want to!”, but what that looks like in a long term capacity is still unclear. Several opportunities have piqued and sustained my interest: team leading with an organization that works in Asia, graduate studies in spiritual formation and discipleship, and member care for individuals serving overseas.
Q3: Do you miss East Asia?
A: Y-E-S!
Q4: What do you miss most?
A: This is hard to really put into words. I miss a multitude of things that may not even make sense. Here’s a little list: going to the market, attempting to speak Chinese, going to Li Hua with my friends, deep conversations and laughter with my friends, my cat, riding my bike, seeing street food vendors setting up shop…I could go on and on.
Q5: Why didn’t you bring Scout with you?
A: Honestly, I just felt like it wasn’t the best decision and logistically I didn’t feel it would work out. Since my departure, Scout has transitioned into a loving and fabulous new family.
Q6: So, are you fluent in Chinese?
A: (insert laugh) Hardly. I took two hours of Chinese every week, and almost 90% of the time I was speaking English. I'll let you do the math. :)
