Universal experiences

As we’ve read literature and discussed thematic ideas present within it, my students and I have dialogued about shared, universal experiences we all feel regardless of our backgrounds. While on vacation, I noticed this at work in little instances of daily life.

Popsicles
Taking a rest in the Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur, we sat people watching and a family caught my eye. The parents were toting popsicles, and the kids greedily and eagerly pawed at their parents in order to get the delicious ice pops.

Fountains
No matter where you are it seems that kids love to watch fountains work and risk the chance of getting completely drenched by the unpredictable flow of water. Countless squeals of delight and attempts to catch the water seem to outweigh the discomfort of being soaked to the bone.

Group pictures
While we were exploring the National Monument in the Lake Gardens, we watched a large group of Indian tourists posing for a group picture.
Did we get it?
No, wait, one more with my camera.
She wasn’t looking.
Problems every tourist encounters.
