I am a nerd.

The other day, one of my students exclaimed, "Everyone in our school is a nerd." In an effort to mitigate her sarcasm, I chimed in, "I'm a nerd. I love nerds." Seriously, I am a nerd. I spent most of the morning and afternoon attempting to write four semester exams for my honors English 10, World Literature, honors US literature and US literature students. As I hunted down poems and passages for the students to read and respond to, I found myself excited about finding passages that would challenge them, and passages that would provoke thoughtful replies. Is it weird that I find myself excited to see how they will respond? Perhaps this is just more evidence that I am a nerd.
