I’ve never had a mantra. I’m not sure I believe in mantras. Over the years, running has become an outlet for me, almost a sense of joy. What I hated as an elementary P.E. student, I now crave. Odd, I know. By no means am I a running fanatic, but there are parts of the following quote I’d love to adopt in my life:
“The more I run, the more I want to run, and the more I live a life conditioned and influenced and fashioned by my running. And the more I run, the more certain I am that I am heading for my real goal: to become the person I am.”—George Sheehan, M.D.
For me, running provides clarity. Running provides peace, a lifting of burdens off of my shoulders. The more I run, the more I let go of that which hinders me, and the more I am able to focus on He who is important.
