Environment

Granted it sounds crazy and I've written this before, but it bears repeating. So often I feel like I have become desensitized to my living environment. "How can this be?" you ask. Easy. While I'm at work, I speak in English. I work with a staff comprised of, mostly, American workers and teach a population of, mostly, Korean students. My interaction with my host country is minimal most days. iPod in on the commute to work: English songs. English at work. English in the classroom. English reading material. Characters surround me on signs and billboards, but I'm essentially illiterate. When I really think about this, it saddens me for I feel like I'll wake up one day, and as The Weepies say, realize that the "world spins madly on" and my time here is done.
